Kathryn Mann
Kathryn Mann is Associate Professor of mathematics and Rosevear faculty leadership fellow at Cornell. Her research is in geometric topology and low dimensional dynamics: the study of abstract spaces and motion, symmetries and transformations. You can learn about some of her recent work in this article in Quanta magazine.
She is also interested in how we learn, communicate, think about, and visualize mathematics, and is frequently involved in organizing conferences and mentorship programs. She especially loves showing students that math is fundamentally a creative endeavor.
Kathryn studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Toronto, obtained her PhD from University of Chicago in 2014, and worked at UC Berkeley and Brown before moving to Cornell in 2019. Here in Ithaca, she especially enjoys all the biking, hiking and outdoor activities nearby, and the lively folk music scene.
