Nico Bottan
Nico serves as an Assistant Professor at the Brooks School of Public Policy and the Department of Economics. He is thrilled to join the Bethe House community as a House Fellow in Fall 2023!
Nico earned both his undergraduate and master's degrees in economics from the Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Subsequently, he spent two years in Washington DC, working at the Inter-American Development Bank. During this time, he was involved in educational research projects in Guatemala and Peru. Before moving to Ithaca, he completed his PhD in economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Nico's research spans Behavioral, Public, and Development Economics. Notably, he delves into the effect of social comparisons and economic expectations on economic decision-making and evaluates programs designed to enhance learning in developing countries.
Raised in Argentina, Nico never misses an opportunity to prepare an asado, savor mate, or cheer for his favorite team, River Plate, over the weekend. However, he admits to never having learned the tango. In his leisure time, Nico is fond of attending Broadway musicals, playing tennis, cooking, and traveling the world.
